Good quality paper for watercolour pencils, brush pens and fine-liner pens. I have experienced some bleeding of colours on to the other side of the page when I layer the colours but overall a great product.

Love this colouring book by Johanna Basford but the colour of the paper is yellowish and it has many pages where it asks the colorists to draw from their own imagination which will not be a piece of cake for those who are into drawing. I preferred Lost Ocean over this. This is a really nice book for adults. Great for colour therapy. However design can be intricate and for beginners a bit tedious.

Overall love the designs and the idea behind it. The designs are intricate and beautiful and pleasing to look at. Johanna Basford's books are best for those who like botanical drawings such as that of leaves, flowers, plants and trees. My only complain is that the pages are extremely yellow.

It is an outstanding product. The quality is awsome. Beyond my expectations. We not only have to colour it but have to do some drawing also. This book has high quality pages, you can use pencil or fineliner colors. The designs are so beautiful.

Lovely illustrations, but the quality of paper used is unfortunately hrrible. Ink transfers to the previous pages so you are restricted to using colour pencils only.

So unfortunate! See all 91 reviews. Would you like to see more reviews about this item? Rated 5 out of 5 by Laza from Amazing It provides a short escape from everyday reality.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Melissa from Very nice I enjoy colouring the illustrations, they're well done. The only thing that could be improved is the paper quality.

It is great for pencil crayons or felts but does not work well with finer pens which is my preferred way to colour. Rated 5 out of 5 by Meghna from Relaxing Helps me relax and pass time easily Date published: She's a huge Secret Garden fan so it was perfect. Rated 4 out of 5 by Cindy from Beautiful! The illustrations are so intricate and simply gorgeous! Great way to pass some time whether you're bored or stressed.

Only wish that the pages could be removed more easily so that they could be framed or hung up after you're finished. Rated 4 out of 5 by Maria from Good finds! Got it for a friend and decided to get one for myself ,so relaxing. Rated 5 out of 5 by Mary from beautiful beautiful and soothing adult coloring book. I prefer the one-sided pages, but it's still a really nice book if you like to use pencil crayons.

The fine lines are challenging sometimes to stay inside of, but I love it. I also like how there fold out pictures to colour. Rated 5 out of 5 by Ning from I loved this!

This is my first color book, which brought me into coloring world. Simple amazing, and my fav!!!!!! Rated 5 out of 5 by Jenn from so great so great for stress relief and a relaxing way to pass time on a rainy day! Rated 3 out of 5 by Ripple from at first it was interesting, but it just got a little bit plain as it goes It was very entertaining at first, but then the same patterns show up over and over again, it was kind of boring of that.

But still, it is a good way to kill some time. Rated 5 out of 5 by Caramelka from My favorite colouring book One of the best colouring books ever, loved the design and pictures. Rated 5 out of 5 by redrobin from Beautiful. Very amazing book.

Fun to color and good quality paper. Rated 5 out of 5 by Turkeysub12 from So pretty The drawings are so pretty! I do recommend getting markers to color as they are much more vibrant than pencil crayons Date published: Rated 5 out of 5 by lemonlemonade from Love! Excellent choice for a birthday present. Some details are really fine and hard to colour in the lines but that really doesn't matter it not going in a museum or anything. Rated 1 out of 5 by Theresa from bummer not for me Date published: Rated 5 out of 5 by Kayla from Loving this book!

I bought this after all the hype I was hearing about them. The intricate pictures really allow a calming time of personal expression. I slowly work at it in the hopes one day, when each picture is finished, I will turn it into art and hang it throughout my home. Rated 4 out of 5 by Lorna from Nice book This item has finally arrived. What a beautiful book. Can't wait to color. The pages seem to be of a good thickness.

I am guessing at around 28 lb bond paper I just recently downloadd 24 lb bond from Staples to print off coloring pages from the internet and the pages in this book seem a bit heavier I will stick with colored pencils and gel pens for now.

A friend showed me this wonderful book and I fell in love with it, so much it took me awhile to start colouring in it. I love drawing and this gives me a break to be with myself in a calming place.

I use Staedtler Fine Line Colouring pens and as long as you don't over colour the area, let it dry then go back over it again and it woudn't show through. I've only had this happen once and thats the reason. I can blend the inks together and the page comes to life.

Also using KOI Woodless colouring pencils and because they are soft quality they are wonder for blending from one colour into another. Rated 5 out of 5 by Victoria from This book is amazing. I got this as a gift from my parents since I have social anxiety and really bad depression. It's always nice to just sit down for an hour or so and colour in this book.

The pages are nice and thick, and the designs are gorgeous and very intricate.. I use Scholar Prismacolor Pencil crayons which work very well in it, as well as Triplus Fine liner pens which as long as you don't press to hard, doesn't bleed through the paper and is always nice for the smaller spaces. All in all, this book is amazing and I totally recommend it if you want to just sit down and not think while you colour.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Angela from Great Gift Idea I was given "Secret Garden" for my birthday, and I absolutely love the whole idea of a colouring book for adults! It's a great way to relax and unwind, especially in a world where we're so consumed by technology. Rated 2 out of 5 by Casie from hard to find tools to colour with I downloadd this after reading and hearing all the great reviews.

Although beautiful, I have yet to enjoy the "therapeutic" colouring bc of the pencil crayons I am using. The designs are so intricate that I can't get a good page, and markers bleed through, which is disappointing considering the beauty of the book and the cost.

Unless anyone can recommend great colouring pencils I'd have to say I am disappointed: Rated 5 out of 5 by Artme from Inspirational love the illustrations, provides me with ideas especially when in a artist slump.

Wonderful gift even for a artist in the making a student who enjoys a challenge. As to not destroy the book I scan the pages onto cardstock or water colour hot press paper and her I can make changes or leave the picture as is and colour it in any medium.

Very relaxing and I have both of her books and looking fwd to the next. I also collected other adult colouring boooks which to are a treat to flip through the pages.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Megs from Obsessed Jumped on the bandwagon and bought myself this book as a mindless way to wind down in the evening and it exceeded my expectations! The illustrations are gorgeous and, despite the complaints about 'poor paper quality', I think it's perfect!

I use colored pencils to color in mine and they work wonderfully.

Would definitely recommend to others! Rated 4 out of 5 by Catiee from So addictive! Love the book! Love the images! Couldn't stop until I was done the page, but at the same time very relaxing. But I do wish the pages were removable or that the color doesn't show through on the other side. I liked them so well I downloadd one for myself. Great unwinding tool for the end of the day.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Transitguy63 from Great gift for Mum! I bought this book for my mother for Mother's Day. So far she loves it. A nice change to crosswords and reading. I use coloured pencils I like to blend different colours.

Secret Garden: An Inky Treasure Hunt And Coloring Book

Wish the binding was a bit looser, or that the images did not go right into the binding area. There are hours of enjoyment to be had in these books.

Put some favorite music on, pour a glass of wine, and lose yourself in the sheer joy of the illustrations and the choice of which color to choose next.

Better yet, get your friends together and host a coloring club!! Can't wait to see this artist's next creation! Have given several of these as gifts, and they were well received. Rated 2 out of 5 by BlairW from poor paper quality Great designs. The paper quality is poor though.

The pens Staedtler Fine liner she recommended to use bleeds right through so you can only colour on one side or use colour pencils. My wish list for next edition would be to print on one sided with thicker paper and with a spiral binding! Rated 3 out of 5 by Robyn from Beautiful illustrations, but I expected more I'm a little confused by a previous comment of "A good book to read". There's nothing to read There are phrases here and there to encourage doodling which I don't do, therefore I find it a waste of a colouring page , but I wouldn't call that something to "read".

If you plan on colouring and framing any of the illustrations, you will have to choose one side or the other Although it is good quality, thicker paper, I don't believe it would stand up to marker use for bleeding I prefer pencil crayons. I find when you first look through the book there is a lot of repetition within the patterns of the illustrations. As you colour it, you're so focused on the page at hand, you forget what the others look like, so it's not a huge deal.

The finished products create a complementary theme throughout. I guess along with the perforated pages, a margin depth would be great, too, so that you can get right into the crease and match the pages up for full effect when framing.

But this is me being VERY particular. It appears to have a coptic binding, so if one REALLY wanted to, you could probably pry the binding apart and remove the stitching to achieve "full" illustrations on the centre pages. I have other colouring books that are half the price and have over pages to colour. Still, it would make a beautiful gift for your artistic loved ones.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Nicher from Just stunning I just received my copy yesterday and it is so beautiful inside, I don't want to colour in it! Rated 5 out of 5 by Naya from awesome book i love this book, great relaxing experience.

Intricate designs make it great for adults to colour. Rated 5 out of 5 by Michelle from An amazing colouring book for Adults!

Will last years! I bought this as a birthday gift for myself. I'm an artsy person, who loves to colour! I read many reviews of this before downloading as I wanted something that would be fun,yet different. This book is all that and more. There are pages where you can finish the drawing by doodling yourself!

There is only one underwater themed garden, wish there had been a couple more. To actually finish this colouring this whole book would take a really long time, I'm thinking a year depending how often you colour! I'm so excited for her next book coming in March; "Enchanted Forest: An Inky Quest and Colouring Book"! I'll be scooping it up right away!

So if you can't decided on a colouring book, then just download this one, it's a great investment! Rated 4 out of 5 by toysaregreat from Good Book This is a good book to read. Rated 5 out of 5 by Kinzie from Nice design downloadd for my adult daughter, loves colouring but everything is so childish, not this, very detailed, and keeps her off social media and using her skills on on something useful.

I bought this for myself. I am an artist but I love to doodle and this is great for anyone that is a doodler or just loves to go back to their childhood and colour.

Or do stressed-out adults feel comforted by the infantilizing nature of returning to an activity for small children? Is it about ceding control of a task, or making something with zero pressure? Or is it something else entirely? I asked Basford why she thinks the books have been so successful amongst fully-grown humans. She pointed to three reasons—first, that coloring books are a way for adults who don't normally draw or paint to be creative. Second, coloring books don't require anywhere near as much logical thought as, say, drawing a portrait.

There are psychological benefits in zoning out, too:. I've heard from so many people ranging from lawyers, financial advisers, business owners and busy mums, all say the same thing: Then there's people who are recuperating from illness or dealing with a difficult time in their lives, they too find the calming, almost meditative effects of colouring is beneficial to them.

And then there are the existential reasons. What's so striking about Secret Garden and Enchanted Forest is that they've managed to stay at the top of site's best seller list as physical books, alongside instant gratification vehicles that can be instantly downloaded and read. Basford hears that too: She points out that her books are an activity that can be done without the help of your wifi router. There's a game some of my friends like to play: What would you do if there was no internet?Intricate designs make it great for adults to colour.

Rated 4 out of 5 by George from Nice This is a nice colouring book and it is enjoyable but I found that the type of paper used didn't allow me to use my pens in it, even though they work in all her other books. Experience the phenomenon that has sold 11 million copies worldwide and launched the coloring craze for adults.

Very thick paper quality. Lost Ocean. I love it! Better yet, get your friends together and host a coloring club!! But Basford's books aren't novels—they're collections of black-and-white drawings.
